The Financial Aid Process
Verification is the confirmation through documentation that the information provided on a student's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is correct. The federal government requires colleges and universities to verify or confirm the data reported on the FAFSA. The verification process ensures that eligible students receive all the financial aid to which they are entitled. Students are selected for verification either randomly or because estimated information submitted on the FAFSA is deemed inconsistent. Once selected for verification, federal aid must not be disbursed until the verification process is completed. Changes to the FAFSA as a result of the verification process may result in a change to the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), and estimated financial aid awards. If a correction to the FAFSA is made by the college as a result of the verification process, the student will receive an updated Student Aid Report indicating the changes made.
The Verification Process
Students selected for verification will receive a Missing Document Letter from the Financial Aid Office which will outline the documents necessary to complete the verification process. The documents listed below can be downloaded, printed, and returned to the Financial Aid Office.
