Susanna Lemberskaya, originally from the Soviet Union, has had a love of music for all of her life. She spent her youth in Odessa, Ukraine, where she graduated from the school of the gifted after studying piano. She went on to the Leningrad Conservatory in present-day Saint Petersburg. Susanna began her work in opera theatre at the age of fourteen in Odessa, followed by experiences in Saint Petersburg and Tashkent, Uzbekistan. While in the U.S.S.R., Susanna worked with D. Skostakovich on the renewal of the opera “Katerina Izmailova,” or “Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District.” She also worked as an accompanist in the solo recitals of Maestro M. Rostropovich, as well as under the baton of Maestros Temirkanov, Gergiev, and Ermler. She also furthered her experiences in the field of music as a vocal coach.
In 1975, Susanna immigrated to San Francisco, where she was employed as the head vocal coach and assistant conductor until 2003; in this position, she worked closely with a number of talented singers and prepared them for their roles. From 2001 to 2006, Susanna worked with the Pittsburgh Opera and Duquesne University as a vocal coach in opera workshops. During this period, she also worked at such renowned organizations as the Opera National de Paris, Staats Opera in Berlin, and R. Wagner Festival in Bayreuth, Germany, as well as work in Florence, Italy and at the Glyndebourne Festival in the U.K. Starting in 2006, Susanna did work for the Los Angeles Opera as a vocal and language coach and as an accompanist. She is presently a vocal coach for Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.
