There are several opportunities for English majors to be published in newspapers and literary magazines, to attend academic conferences, and to participate in academic and creative competitions.

StubbsThe award continues the legacy of poet and SVC Will Stubbs, whose spirit of engagement in literature, culture, and community inspired students to think broadly and take creative risks in their scholarly endeavors. The William Stubbs Creativity Award recognizes outstanding student work that displays ingenuity and social consciousness. The recipient will have completed a substantial paper or project that demonstrates an imaginative, cross-disciplinary approach to any academic subject. Acceptable entries for this $300 award include academic or independent works of research, scholarship, visual art, performance, journalism, and creative writing.

The ReviewThe Saint Vincent student newspaper is published out of the English department. There are several writing and editorial positions available at the paper each academic year. The new class News Writing also offers students the opportunity to write for the paper and perhaps be chosen to be published. The Review comes out each week and features a Campus Life, World News, Arts and Entertainment, Sports, and Culture page.

GenerationMagazineThe Saint Vincent literary magazine is published twice a year and hosts submitted creative works from students of all majors. The magazine is a great chance for your creative work to be published in an official magazine and it is distributed to students at the end of each semester. There are also editorial staff positions available for the creation of the literary magazine. Students typically submit poetry, short stories, and art work.
