Lecturer of Music
Sonya Caceres is a lirico-spinto soprano and recent addition to the faculty of Saint Vincent College Music Department.
Sonya is a graduate of Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music where she earned her Master’s in Music Performance while acting as the Opera Department’s Graduate Assistant.
In 2011, Sonya performed La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi) & covered the title role in Suor Angelica. In November 2010, Mrs. Caceres was named a winner of the Duquesne University Concert Competition. In 2009, Sonya was the soloist on Mahler’s, “Um Mitternacht,” with Duquesne University’s Wind Symphony. In 2010, she portrayed Zweite Dame in Duquesne’s production of “The Magic Flute.” She was also heard as the voice in the opening credits of the film trailer for CMU’s International Film Festival’s presentation, “Faces of Globalization.”
Market District Giant Eagle at Robinson launched a campaign featuring Sonya and 5 other opera singers called “Opera in the Aisles.” One of the Giant Eagle gigs was featured in January 2011 on CNBC’s “Supermarkets, Inc” and can be viewed on youtube. Sonya has performed with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh and with members of the Pittsburgh Symphony. She has sung Lady Billows in Benjamin Britten’s “Albert Herring” as well as toured as Gretel in Englebert Humperdinck’s “Hansel & Gretel.” Sonya traveled to EPCASO (Ezio Pinza Council for American Singers of Opera) for 5 weeks of intensive study in Oderzo, Italy.
Sonya is part of the professional choir at Shadyside Presbyterian Church. She founded and is a singer in the versatile trio, Opera Belles. Sonya is also a member of the national music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda’s Zeta Theta Chapter.
