Fr. Bonaventure was a monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey who studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Munich. Later, he transferred his vows to St. Mary’s Abbey in Newark, N.J., and helped found the Studio of Christian Art at Saint Anselm Abbey and College in Manchester, N.H. The image is taken from the painting he created for the celebration of the 1400th anniversary of the birth of Saint Benedict and depicts Benedictine saints and the American Benedictine abbots in 1880.
In praeclarissimis suis sanctis ac nunc regnantibus praelatis Fr. Bonaventure Ostendarp, O.S.B., (1856-1912) Saint Vincent Art Collections.
