Beginning in the Fall of 2013, the Music Department of Saint Vincent College began offering undergraduate programs in Sacred Music leading to the following degrees:
As the first Catholic, Benedictine College in the U.S. (founded 1846) we focus on the musical traditions of the Catholic Church, studied and practiced in a Benedictine environment that accentuates Community, Stewardship and Service. Our College campus is also home to Saint Vincent Archabbey, Saint Vincent Seminary, and Saint Vincent Basilica Parish - an ideal setting for the study of Sacred Music.
The formation of a Church musician requires training in a variety of disciplines, including composition, keyboard, choral singing and direction. And since all of these skills are intended for community prayer, they need an environment for practice. Two choral ensembles specializing in sacred music, each performing 2 major concerts per year, are integral to the Concentration in Sacred Music:
In March 2014, the historic Saint Vincent Basilica will receive its new pipe organ constructed by the renowned John-Paul Buzard Pipe Organ Builders of Champaign, IL.
