December 7 at 7:30 pm, Saint Vincent Basilica December 8 at 4 pm, Sacred Heart Church, Shadyside, Pittsburgh The Saint Vincent Camerata with the Academy Chamber Orchestra will present an All-Bach concert on December 7 and 8, 2013. The program includes 2 complete Cantatas: n. 61 "Savior of the Nations, Come" (Nun komm der Heiden Heiland), and n. 147 "Heart and Mouth and Deed and Life" (Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben).
Soprano soloist in the Cantatas will be Grettelyn Nypaver, an alumna (2010) of Saint Vincent College, now an active free-lance vocalist in Pittsburgh, who has been soloist with the Camerata, the Saint Vincent College Choir, and with the Schola Cantorum of Holy Family.
Olga Perez Flora, who has performed with the Amarillo, Arizona, Ohio State, Opera Festival of Rome, Pittsburgh, and New Jersey Opera companies, will be mezzo soprano soloist.
Tenor soloist will be James Flora, a veteran of the opera companies of Arizona, Middlebury, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, and a Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra soloist. Metropolitan Opera soloist Brian Kontes, who also performs with the Hong Kong, Lorraine, Nashville, New Orleans, New York City, and Seattle opera companies, will be baritone soloist.
The concert will also include Bach's Violin Concerto in A Minor, with Saint Vincent College Senior music major Aubrey Saloka as violin soloist.
Dr. Warren Davidson, artistic director of the Academy Chamber Orchestra will be concertmaster. Fr. Stephen Concordia, O.S.B., of the Saint Vincent College music faculty will conduct.
The concert on Saturday, December 7 is at 7:30 pm in Saint Vincent Basilica. Tickets for the concert at Saint Vincent are $10 in advance, and $12 at the door. To purchase tickets call 724-805-2177.
The concert on December 8 is at 4 pm at Sacred Heart Church, Shadyside, Pittsburgh, and is free admission.
