    Saint Vincent Dining Services

    Welcome to Saint Vincent Dining Services, dedicated to providing quality service for the students, guests and clients of Saint Vincent College. We have select locations here on campus motivated to offer a variety of dining options and accommodations to fulfill specific needs.  We pride ourselves on our ability to connect with students and strive towards high quality, nutritious, fresh menu options that show just how much we care about our service to the college.

    Below is everything you may wish to know about our locations such as our main dining hall, The Shack, our catering services and all of the extra options we provide to students, faculty/staff, clients and guests of the college. We also have provided our dining service hours, meal information and Parkhurst Dining material to better inform you about our locations, services and goals here at Saint Vincent College.

    The idea of fine dining at a college is something we take very seriously. Our management, culinary experts and trained employees are here to show the importance of a quality meal and the impact it makes on the education of every student.

     

  • Below are the different locations and options that we provide Saint Vincent College. You will find our home at the Community Center which is considered out main dining hall, The Shack, which provides an alternative option for food at flexible hours and our catering service, which works in collaboration with Events and Conferences to provide an outreach to the Saint Vincent Community. We also have our hours of operation, information about our programs implemented through Parkhurst Dining and contact information for our management staff here at Saint Vincent Dining.

    The Community Center is our main dining hall on campus. Here, you will find a variety of options that suit individual needs. Our innovative team of management, culinary artists and knowledgeable associates are dedicated to incorporating fresh, nutritional per Parkhurst Standard. We operate under the EcoSteps Program and FarmSource to gain local, homegrown product.  We offer take-out methods, special dietary restriction options, Pizza on call and bagged lunches to accommodate all guest needs.

    With our five different concept designs throughout the community center, guests are able to choose from a colorful collection of food options. These options allow guests to feel like their choices are endless! With made-to-order sandwiches, homemade pizzas, fun family-style dishes & salads galore, there are opportunities to fill your stomach twice-over!!  Among these concepts we offer are: Parkside Diner, Sequoia Grill, East Street Deli, Bravisimo!, &  The Pepperazzi.

     

     Parkside 

     

    Picture your mom’s homemade spaghetti and meatballs or your dad’s famous ham BBQ and this is the exact place to feel like home. With family style meals made from fresh local products, this is the place to eat and feel like you never left your hometown. 

     Sequoia 

    The Sequoia grill offers a variety of hamburgers, hot dogs and French fries that will make your mouth water! Choose from a selection of toppings and cheeses to create an item that allows you to feel like you are having a family cook-out.

     
     

     East Street 

     

    Pick from your favorite deli meats and breads to customize a sandwich or enjoy a specialty pre-made sandwich if you don’t want to choose! Homemade dips and fresh tuna or chicken salad are also offered as alternative options.

     

     

    Pepperazzi 

    Pepperazzi is a pizza station where our master pizza makers design creative options that are to die for! Made from fresh pizza dough and baked in our brick ovens, this pizza is unlike any other. With four different pizza selections and fresh pasta and breadsticks daily, nothing comes close to our Pepperazzi Pizza station.

     
     

     

    Bravo 

     

     

     A specialty item every day!! This station is an action bar designed to allow guests to make a meal their own way with different entrees and toppings. Bravo is a way to allow our trained chefs and the guest to interact and find a meal best suited to the individuals’ needs.

    No matter your need or cravings, we will always continue our mission to accommodate all and create new and exciting menu items, along with our themed meals. We work hard to come up with ideas that will be a delicious surprise and are always open to suggestions that can be easily read through our comment card box. Guests can leave us a message and we respond with our thoughts and goals because your thoughts matter!!

    Shack-Front

    With a place like The Shack, even if you have to run to class and need a quick snack or just missed the chance to eat at the community center, we are here to give you a second chance to eat! Here you can order food on the fly or grab a candy bar to hold you over while still gaining quality hospitality along the way. We offer a wide selection of options from a fresh charbroiled bacon cheeseburger and a side of fries to a made-to-order deli wrap with a fresh cut fruit salad. The possibilities are unfathomable!!! And don’t forget to take a look at our infamous On-The-Go cooler, which allows choices such as homemade sandwiches, wraps, salads or some fresh cupped grapes, pineapple, eggs and more! We pride ourselves in quick, fresh products to accommodate eating on the run or sitting down for a meal with friends after class.

     Shack-People

    As a part of our wide selection, The Shack offers concepts that fit the needs of the guest. Like the Community Center, we offer a Parkside Diner Menu, Sequoia Grill and East Street Deli. We are also open to any suggestions and often try to spice up our menu with new on the go items and various sandwiches, fried items and deli wraps.

    With such a broad community outreach at Saint Vincent College, there are many programs and events that are set up through our catering service. Whether we have an academic conference or a committee meeting, our Catering service works closely with Events and Conference to create spectacular events showcasing the Saint Vincent community.

    Meal Plan Options

    *Prices vary depending on what meal plan a student chooses. Freshman must purchase the 19 Meal Plan or the 15 Meal Plan for their first year of schooling. Prices will also vary based upon a rolling year. Meal plans run from Sunday to Saturday and plans may be used at the Community Center for meals or exchanged for meal equivalence ($5.90) at The Shack for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. Only one meal can be purchased within a 3 hour period. Meal plan and flex dollars expire at end of each semester. 

     19 Meal Plan 

    Provides 19 meals/week plus $50 Flex Dollars/semester and 5 bonus meals/semester

    * "Best Value" meal option with the most meals in one week (Great for breakfast eaters!) 

    15 Meal Plan 

    Provides 15 meals/week plus $100 Flex Dollars/semester and 5 bonus meals/semester

    *Perfect for freshman sport players!  

    12 Meal Plan 

    Provides 12 meals/week plus $125 Flex Dollars/semester and 5 bonus meals/semester

    *Upperclassmen option only 

    200 Block Plan 

    Provides 200 meals/semester (which averages 13.5/week plus $100 Flex Dollars/semester and 5 bonus meals/semester

    *Upperclassmen option only - Only option capable to use more than 1 meal in the 3 hour time period
     

    Apartment Plan 

    Provides 8 meals/week plus $400 Flex Dollars/semester and 5 bonus meals/semester

    *Upperclassmen option only - Students who are interested in this plan must reside in the Rooney Hall apartments. 

    Commuter Meal Plan 

    Provides 5 meals/week plus $50 Flex Dollars/semester 

    *Students who are interested in this plan must be currently enrolled as a student teacher or be a commuter student 

    Express Dollars 

    Express dollars provide the ultimate flexibility for students. In addition to a resident's meal plan, he/she can purchase Express Dollars to add onto their card at any time. Commuters may add these dollars without having a meal plan. Express dollars are held in an account and act like a debit card. This was designed to allow students to purchase meals and snacks without the hassle of carrying cash. You can check your balance any time you make a purchase or even ask your cashier for your balance. Express dollars have a minimum buy-in of $50 increments with a %5 bonus at the time of purchase. You may then add more in $25 increments at any time after and will expire at the end of each academic year.

     

    Some Frequently Asked Questions 

    Q: CAN I REALLY EAT AS MUCH AS I LIKE?
    A: Yes! We have an unlimited seconds policy which means that you get as many servings as you want of everything in the Community Center. There are only four (4) limitations to this policy. 

    • Once you leave the dining area you may not re-enter during the same meal period.  
    • We ask that you take only one entree at a time and consume it before you return for seconds.  
    • All food & beverage item(s) must be consumed before leaving the cafeteria.  
    • You may only take one serving of the special entree on Steak Night or other "Premium" Meals. However, another unlimited entree is available for your selection for seconds. 

    With these limitations, our staff will be glad to serve you as many second servings as you wish. Please do not ask the server to increase your portion size, because we have found that the standard portions reduce waste. Be conscious of food waste, as wasted food means higher costs for all students. Half portions of entrees are available upon request.

    Q: WHAT WILL YOU DO TO KEEP ME FROM GETTING BORED WITH EATING IN THE DINING HALL?
    A: Dining Services offers Special Events and Festive Theme Meals on a monthly basis designed to add variety to your dining experiences. The Festive Theme Meals usually feature ethnic entrees and accompaniments such as fruits and cheeses from around the world.

    Q: WHO DO I CONTACT WHENEVER I HAVE A GREAT IDEA ABOUT IMPROVING DINING SERVICES?
    A: Please feel free to contact the Dining Services Management Team at any time with your ideas, comments or suggestions. All management staff are available during the meal periods in the dining room and service areas of both the Shack and the Community Center. They are also available by telephone during non-meal service times.

     

    Student Job Opportunities 

    Student associates are very important to us. We have many part-time or even full-time positions for students in the Community Center Dining Hall as well as The Shack and Catering. You can stop by the Dining Services office at any time to pick up your application!

      The Parkhurst Difference

      Parkhust Dining Services prides itself on our Gold Standards which ensures the campus community of always having the freshest and most nutritious meals. We focus on the nutritional side of campus life! These are just some of the many Gold Standards that we abide by:

      • Fresh vegetables daily
      • USDA Choice or above
      • Minimum of five fresh fruits daily
      • No processed vegetables on the salad bar
      • Hand-breaded fish
      • Soups made from scratch
      • Fresh, never frozen, hand-pressed hamburgers
      • Foods prepared from scratch using real ingredients:
        • Real mashed potatoes

Our sustainability is developed to establish corporate and local standards that continually focus on environmental issues. We highlight items that prove our sustainability, such as recycled paper & our greenware project. Our mission is to continually expand our role as a socially responsible company. Saint Vincent Dining showcases our sustainability with our Fred Rogers Center, which is a green building that recycles all products like paper, glass & cans, along with all of our fully biodegradable greenware (cups, plates, silverware, etc.) while maintaining exceptional hospitality experiences for all of our guests.

While our guests enjoy wholesome, fresh foods, we support our local community and build relationships with farmers and producers. Some examples for Saint Vincent Dining Services are our local outreach with Paragon Foods in Pittsburgh and Turner Dairy based in the Penn Hills area.

With Hemisflavors, we take ideas from our chefs and management team to come up with ideas unique to our own account. These ideas slowly turn into a project that expands to ideas that our residents and guests have suggested and before your eyes, our whole dining area is recreated into a Caribbean retreat or a Country western hoedown with featured cuisine from a different culture.
