Disability Support Services

Students with documented disabilities who are otherwise qualified for programs at Saint Vincent College are eligible to receive reasonable accommodations in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.  Students who meet these criteria are strongly encouraged to meet with the Associate Director of Academic Affairs, Sandy Quinlivan, located in Headmasters Hall (second floor) or call 724-805-2371. 

Entitlements of Disabled Students:

  • Be provided equal access to courses, programs, and activities offered by Saint Vincent College.
  • Receive reasonable accommodations according to their specific disability.
  • Self-determine who will receive information about their disability and recommended accommodations.

Responsibilities of Disabled Students:

  • Submit the required documentation, including:
    • Diagnosis of a specific disability, including any learning disability test results.
    • Functional limitations in an educational setting.
    • Explanation of specific recommended accommodations.
  • Meet qualifications and essential standards for courses, programs, and activities.
  • Self-identity as an individual with a disability when an accommodation is needed.
  • Initiate all services and the preceding requirements in a timely manner.

Classroom Accommodations-

Reasonable academic accommodations for students with disabilities are modifications that allow otherwise qualified individuals to have an equal opportunity in the classroom.  In accordance with a student’s documentation, such accommodations may include:

  • Distraction-limited test environment
  • Extended test time
  • Reader for exams
  • Computer exam format
  • Permission to tape record lectures
  • Notetakers
  • Alternate format for written material

Reasonable accommodations do not alter the essential elements of courses, programs or activities.

The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR)-

This office of the PA Department of Labor and Industry can provide funding for learning disability testing, tuition, adaptive equipment and other services.  If you are a Pennsylvania resident, you can call 1-800-762-4223 for additional information or a referral to an OVR counselor. A representative of OVR is available monthly at the Saint Vincent College Office of Admission and FInancial Aid.
