Pre-College Students

The Pre-College program at Saint Vincent College is designed to allow current juniors and seniors in local high schools to experience the college atmosphere, advance their current high school coursework in preparation for college, and do so at half the price of a typical undergraduate course.  Taking advantage of the Pre-College program will not only help in the transition to college, but it will also allow flexibility in the student’s college experience. Many students who take courses in the pre-college program are able to explore more coursework in college, earn a double major, or even take fewer credits during a challenging college semester.

Student Eligibility:

1)  Must be a junior or senior in high school

2)  Student must be making satisfactory progress toward fulfilling applicable secondary school graduation requirements, as determined by the School District.  Students must meet all guidelines required by their school district to be eligible.

3) Must obtain permission from their guidance counselor.  If the student is taking courses during school hours, the student must seek permission of the school district to leave campus during that time.

How to Apply:

1)  Complete the Pre-College Application

2)  Submit the application with a letter from your guidance counselor stating that you are in good academic standing and that you have their permission to take college courses.  It is strongly suggested the guidance counselor help the student pick their courses.

Applications can be sent to:

Graduate and Continuing Education Office, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Latrobe, PA 15650

Pre-College Classes:

Courses completed in the pre-college program are the same courses that our current undergraduate students are taking here at Saint Vincent College.  Pre-College students will be interacting with our current students and will earn college credit that will directly apply to degree requirements if they decide to come here.  Those planning to attend other colleges will be able to request a transcript from the Registrar (at the cost of $5.00) and transfer the courses to the college of their choice.  If a student plans to transfer the credit, it is their responsibility to check with the other institution on how the credits will be received and accepted.  While we do expect that these credits will transfer to other colleges, Saint Vincent College does not guarantee that all colleges will accept these credits.

Registration:

While attending Saint Vincent College as a Pre-College student you will register with the Coordinator of Graduate and Continuing Education, Ms. Lisa Glessner.  You may contact her at 724-805-2933 or lisa.glessner@stvincent.edu.  Click here for a list of available pre-college courses.  Students can choose from any course on this list with the permission of their guidance counselor.  If your high school offers reimbursement, please ask your counselor which courses will meet their requirements for reimbursement.  Student will be registered on a first come/first serve basis.  Many of our classes do close; therefore interested students should register early.

Benefits:

As a Pre-College student you will be able to take part in campus activities, use the SVC gym and pool, and utilize tutoring or support services.  Your student ID will also offer discount at local stores.

Cost and Payment:

We offer half price undergraduate tuition to all Pre-College students.  Tuition is $770.00 per credit, and the half price tuition $385.00 per credit.  Most courses are 3 credits.  Students will also be responsible for a part-time technology fee of $45.00 and an initial registration fee of $15.00.  Books can be purchased from the campus bookstore.

Students who are attending high schools that offer reimbursement for Pre-College courses will be required to pay the total bill upfront (you must inquire with your high school to find out whether tuition reimbursement is given and only they will have the details of how much and how it will be distributed).  Once the high school receives their reimbursement money, it will be designed to the students account here at Saint Vincent College.  If the account is paid in full as required, a refund check will be issued to the student.  If a balance remains on the account, it will be paid before issuing a refund to the student.  We do offer a number of payment plan options.  Please contact the business office for information on payment plans or billing questions at 724-805-2577.
