Graphic Design Learning Objectives
- Students should know and be able to use discipline based vocabulary.
- Students should be able to critique their own work, as well as the work of others.
- Students should be able to identify stylistic characteristics.
- Students should have acquired basic facility in a broad range of media/instruments and/or research methods.
- Students should have acquired advanced facility in one medium/instrument.
- Students should have understanding of possible career paths.
Students who successfully complete the graphic design major will
have a solid background in traditional as well as contemporary
techniques and methods of graphic design. Graduates will be prepared to
take internships or entry-level positions in graphic design. The
program is focused on two dimensional work, print, layout and
photography. The curriculum reflects the broad skills students must
acquire, a foundation in the history of visual art, and strong
critical thinking and occupational skills necessary for success in the
field. Students focus their time on two-dimensional media but have a
choice to concentrate on photography or printmaking. Additionally, all
students will have had nine (9) credits of computer related coursework
including web-based media.
