The pre-health professions refers to undergraduate preparation for study in allopathic medicine, chiropractic medicine, dental medicine, osteopathic medicine, optometry, podiatric medicine and veterinary medicine. Students interested in these areas may choose any undergraduate major, but a solid foundation in biology and chemistry, and a fundamental knowledge of mathematics and physics are necessary.
Requirements (102 credits)
Students interested in attending the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine have the option of completing their undergraduate and medical degrees in seven years instead of eight years. The required course of study while at Saint Vincent College is as follows:
First Semester (16 credits)General Biology I with Laboratory General Chemistry I with Laboratory Calculus I First Theology All students must take one 4 credit course designated as a First-Year Seminar.
Second Semester (18 credits) General Biology II with Laboratory General Chemistry II with Laboratory Calculus II Language & Rhetoric Social Science
Third Semester (16 credits) Cell Biology with Laboratory Organic Chemistry I with Laboratory Calculus III General Physics I with Laboratory
Fourth Semester (17 credits) Mammalian Physiology - no Laboratory Organic Chemistry II with Laboratory General Physics II with Laboratory 1st Philosophy History
Fifth Semester (17 credits) Physical Chemistry I with Laboratory Proteins and Metabolism with Laboratory Theology Foreign Language Fine Arts

The culminating experience at Saint Vincent College is CH 304. At the end of the first year of successful study at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, the student receives the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biological Chemistry from Saint Vincent College. At the end of successful study at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, the student receives the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.
