Psi Chi

Saint Vincent College's Psi Chi Chapter was founded in 1995.  Psi Chi is a national honor society for psychology majors and minors.  Membership in Psi Chi is highly selective and qualifying students are typically invited to join during their sophomore or junior years.
Psi Chi members work on attaining their career goals by learning to write effective graduate school applications, publishing their original research in the Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate Research, and making professional presentations at academic conferences.
Psi Chi is also a service organization.  Psi Chi members perform college, local, and national service projects each semester.  Past service projects have included sending Christmas gifts to residents of an area home for the elderly, participating in the CROP walk for hunger relief, and for four years running members have raised money for a local domestic violence and sexual assault center.  In  1996 Psi Chi members collected over 1,700 pairs of eyeglasses for needy individuals in the U.S. and abroad-more eyeglasses than any other Psi Chi chapter participating in the eyeglasses drive. In 1998, the chapter collected used textbooks and sent them to Zambia.
Our chapter was one of 19 Model Chapters for the 2000-2001 year.

Psychology Club

The Saint Vincent College Psychology Club provides students with opportunities to explore their career goals in a social atmosphere.  The Psychology Club is open to all St. Vincent College students regardless of their major.  In the past, the Psychology Club has sponsored a trip to Cleveland, Ohio to visit a traveling exhibit sponsored by the American Psychological Association.  the exhibit, entitles "100 Years of Psychology," emphasized the scientific knowledge humankind has gained in the past 100 years.
The Psychology Club has also sponsored practice Graduate Record Exams (required for application to graduate school) so students can gauge their readiness for graduate school applications.  In addition, the Psychology Club held a seminar on effective interviewing skills complete with a mock interview.  Psychology members have attended the Laurel Highlands Undergraduate Psychology Conference at which students presented their own, original research to other students and faculty.
On the more social side, the Psychology Club has sponsored activities such as a "Meet-the-Freshmen" picnic at the beginning of the year and a game of volleyball against the Saint Vincent College faculty.
