Q: What
Criteria do you use to evaluate students?
A: The Admission Committee
evaluates a candidate in the following areas:
- Course selection based upon
level of difficulty
- Grade Point Average
- SAT or ACT scores
- Class
rank (if available)
- Extracurricular activities
Q: Do you
offer rolling Admission?
A: Saint Vincent College operates on a
rolling admission basis. Once we receive an application for admission, the
committee begins to evaluate the credentials of the student. Typically, the
review process is completed within a two week period.
Q: How many students attend your
school?
A: Our student population is approximately 1800 students. The
male to female ratio is 48/52.
Q: Where is your school located?
A:
SVC is located in the small town of Latrobe, PA (about 9,500 residents) which is
35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. It takes about 50 minutes to travel to
downtown Pittsburgh from Latrobe.
Q: What is
the student/faculty ratio?
A: There is one faculty member for every 15
students at Saint Vincent College.
Financial Aid Questions
Q: What
types of Financial Aid does your school offer?
A: Saint Vincent
College offers both merit based aid and need based aid. The merit based money
includes: Academic and Leadership Scholarships along with all of the
scholarships listed on the Financial Aid Brochure. With the exception of the
Wimmer Exam, the scholarships and competitions listed on the brochure are open
to all students. To apply for need based aid, which includes Federal, State and
Institutional grants and loans, students and their parents must complete the
Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after
January 1. This is the only form needed to apply for aid at Saint Vincent
College and directions on how and when to complete it are on the back of the
Financial Aid Brochure.
Q: Does your school offer athletic scholarships ?
A: Due to our membership in the President's Athletic Conference (NCAA Division III), SVC does not offer Athletic Scholarships. However, our financial aid packages are designed to make attending SVC as affordable as possible.
Q: How much does your school cost?
A: For the 2009/2010
school year the costs are as follows:
- Tuition: $25,350
- Room and Board: $8,422
- Fees: $1,141
- Total: $34,913
Q: What
are my chances of receiving financial assistance?
A: The only way to
determine your eligibility is to submit an application for financial aid. The
likelihood of receiving some form of financial aid is probably better than most
students and their families anticipate. Generally approximately 90% of the
student population receives some form of financial aid.
Q: How do
I apply for Financial Aid?
A: You must complete the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Q: Where
do I get a FAFSA form?
A: If you took the SAT test during your Junior
year in high school, you should automatically receive the application in the
mail. They can also be obtained from your High School Guidance office, or we
will be glad to mail you one.
Q: What are the application
deadlines?
A: Complete and mail the FAFSA as soon as possible after
January 1st. Our preferred deadline is March 1. To be considered for the state grant (PA residents only), you must file before May 1.
