So the time comes for scheduling for next semester. In my opinion, scheduling for fall classes in the spring is just cruel. Here we are getting ready to permanently erase any recollection of school from our minds and the schools says, “Hey Jimmy/Sally/BoyGirl Name, obsess over picking your classes now!,” so you can spend the whole summer worrying if you really should have signed up for 8:30 am Chemistry course (NO) or whether or not you should drop your Into to Psychology night class (YES). This is just another subtle form of torture brought to you by College Incorporated. I think St. Vincent should invest some big bucks into getting some cooler classes, and by cooler, I mean not drool-inducing. Just in case any higher-up ties are reading this entry (NOT LIKELY), here are a few suggestions. I’ve even written out the course descriptions to save them the hassle. No need to thank me. Creativity Stimulation 101 Ever wanted to do something creative? Boy, do we have the class for you! No talent? No problem! This is an entire course centered on inspiring creativity. Topics covered in course: Poetry (except the stuff you don’t like), drawing (stick people drawers welcome!), painting (finger paints are A OK!), singing, charades, stand-up comedy, improvisation, acting, movies, and crafts. PS: We offer free candy and hugs! Physical Education Miss high school PE? Scared of gaining the Freshmen (Sophomore/Junior/ Senior/Second-Year Senior) 15? Fear not! Topics covered: Flag football, Kickball, Ultimate Frisbee, basketball, badminton, pickle ball, relay races, soccer, roller hockey, golf and ping-pong. Screenplay Writing Spielberg ain’t got nothing on you! Or at least he won’t after you take this course. Watch movies to gather research on technique, and write own screenplay. Final products will, of course be considered for production. OK, well maybe the first one was just wishful thinking, but I really wouldn’t mind seeing the other two classes show up on our course list. Imagine my horror when I, Alicia Rae, 2006 gym student of the year (this is only funny if you know me) came to a college that did not have a gym class. I miss it. I can’t catch a ball, shoot a hoop, do more than 50 sit-ups without going into cardiac arrest or properly use a golf club, but I sure had one hell of a time trying. Also, I’d like to write movies. I’d be more apt to do it if it were a class….. If you need me, I’ll be in my room freaking out over my schedule for next semester. Any suggestions? Email me at alicia.rae@email.stvincent.edu.
