This is a Brand New Day!

Hello my friends. Words cannot even express how happy I am that our country has matured and grown to the level it has and elected Sen. Barack Obama as our 44th president. Wow. I mean, the whole time I was pulling for him and I was trying to convince my friends that he was the very man America needed, but somewhere deep inside me I dreaded that it would never work.

I stayed up and watched the election, watched the votes come in instead of doing homework (do as I say, not as I do). When Obama won PA, I was especially proud. Whether people want to admit it or not, a lot of PA, especially Western PA is racist (I know, I live here). For about two hours, Obama had only a less than 100 electoral votes lead on McCain and Kylie, my roommate and I held our breaths. When he captured Ohio, I couldn't help but scream. Ohio is a red state and when it swung over, it was definitely an exciting moment for me, and I'm sure for the Obama campaign.

The news anchors on MSNBC, the channel we watched, kept saying, we are waiting for 11 and they wouldn't say why. But then 11 rolled around, California went to Obama, and they made the historic announcement that Obama was predicted to be the 44th President of USA. Then, by 11:15 McCain had called Obama to congratulate him and by 11:30, McCain was giving his secession speech, which, by the way, was very humble and gracious. I'll give McCain 5 points for good sportsmanship. We had to wait until 12 to hear Obama's acceptance speech. It was really powerful. I think America made a better decision than she realized. I also think the Obama slogan, Change We Need, couldn't be more perfect. All we have to wait for is a day in January where our president elect become president and W goes back to Texas.

Thanks America for restoring my faith in humanity. This truly is a brand new day. 8)
