I am looking forward to the SVC Spring Family Weekend (April 19th and 20th). In particular, I’m excited to celebrate Earth Day, largely because I never have before and likely never will again. It is really great that the various organizations responsible for the arranging the weekend are putting so much thought into celebrating Earth Day. While the formal celebration of Earth Day begins at noon, SVC encourages us to show our love for Mother Earth as early as 10 a.m. At that time, we are invited to express our love for the earth by crushing it under the tire treads of our leisure Hummer (Estimated Fuel Economy: 8 mpg) and needlessly hovering over it in a helicopter, all the while burning the oil that this planet has so selflessly provided for us. I like to think of it as a burnt sacrifice to mother earth that will spread an aroma of fossil fuel incense over campus, entering through the nostrils of the visitors enjoying the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve and filling them with a sense of wonder.
