This week marked the beginning of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. In a related incident, I have declared all homework and assignments “strictly optional” on game nights. This past Wednesday a friend of mine who has “technological connections” scored us a high-resolution projector. He also graciously paid for an HD receiver for the pod from now until the end of the playoffs (THANK YOU!). With these items, ten of us were able to watch the Penguins trounce, maim, destroy, embarrass, annihilate, rout, crush, clobber, cream, skunk, pulverize, massacre, lick, whip, make mincemeat out of, wipe the floor with, and defeat the Ottawa Senators in game one of the quarter finals. Do I need to elaborate on how awesome it was?

My friend Jem told me a story that I am obligated to pass along. He narrated it something like this:
“I was in the Carey Center and I got some phlegm in my mouth. So I went to the bathroom to spit it in the toilet. After I did I went to flush the toilet, but my cell phone was in my hoodie’s pocket, so when I reached forward to flush the toilet, my phone fell in the toilet and I was like ‘Oh crap!’ So I reached in to grab it but it flushed down before I could get it. I was like ‘Oh no!’ I went to FMO and they just laughed at me. Then they got a plumbing snake and tried to snake it out but I guess the phone went all the way through the pipes and now its gone. It sucks too because I just got that phone a few months ago. Now my mom is mailing me my old one.”

There is now a dedicated facebook group asking for phone numbers to restock Jem’s contact list.

This week was course registration week as well as the first week to pick up a housing lottery ticket. Registering for classes was again relatively easy for me thanks to my credits earned in high school. Selecting a housing lottery ticket was a little bit nerve-wracking. With one bad pick, I could be relegated to living in a windowless janitor’s closet with rats and slime mold for roommates (I kid, prospective students, I kid). Fortunately for me I picked 102 out of 400, which I’m told is fairly good. Not as good as my friend Tim, who picked 17, but good nonetheless.
