the need for a how-to on student support of athletics

What a weekend! Friday I had a riding lesson that ended up running late (of course!) so I was rushing around trying to get ready for the Relient K/New Found Glory concert, which ended up being entirely unnecessary rushing since we stood in line in the rain for a half an hour to get through security and into the Carey Center anyway. But fortunately that was not a preview of the weekend to come!

The concert was amazing! Local band Like A Movie opened, and from the little bit that I heard I thought they were pretty good. And New Found Glory and Relient K were of course great. Being on the floor was crazy with the crowd surfing and random mosh pits that opened up, and with the general shoving and pushing that goes on...pretty sure I pulled a matrix move or two - you know, where your upper body goes back way farther than you thought possible and you're ready to fall over backwards before right yourself. Great workout, I was actually a little sore the next day! Only drawback was by the end of the night you were so covered in sweat, you weren't sure if it was yours or someone else's...grossssss.

Saturday night a few friends and I went to cheer on our mens basketball team in the ECAC Division II Championship game vs Post University...and congrats are in order! The Bearcats won 86-77 after a close and exciting game. Well done! However, I must say I am very disappointed in the efforts of the fans. The gym was not even close to being a full house, and the student section slash so-called "Carey Crazies" were very under-represented, and very un-crazy. There was no rowdy cheering or ref-insulting common to basketball games...you could have fallen asleep on the bleachers. Quite shamefully embarrassing...and for a CHAMPIONSHIP game too! I think St. Vincent needs some serious reorganization and motivation in that area of athletics. As a student athlete myself, I can tell you how much it sucks when there is such an embarrasing lack of support at games. I know most people think soccer is boring to watch, but at away games I've seen more students from the home school at one game than probably all of those who came to all of our home games combined. And the fact that such a poor draw came to a Championship Basketball game is even worse. TSK TSK. Get on that, all ye who call yourselves "Bearcats."
