Party!Ken and Stopping Traffic

I had, quite possibly, one of the greatest weekends since I came to SVC…and now I’m going to tell you all about it.

It started Friday, when Alyssa came to casa Janflone for Disney movies and feasting. She, of course, brought along my favorite companion, Party!Ken.

Now, for those of you who have not heard of his greatness, Party!Ken is, well, a Ken doll, but also the official mascot of the great people that are my friends. He was christened with the moniker Party!Ken following a random evening of photo shoots in my basement. And before everyone with Internet access labels me supreme creeper, let the record show that it was for an AP English project on feminist literature, not for my own enjoyment.

It came to pass that Party!Ken came with us whenever amazing-ness was about to go down. New Years Eve? Party!Ken. Opening night of Barefoot in the Park and Little Women? Party!Ken. Vacation? Party!Ken. Eventually it came to pass that I felt the need to give Party!Ken away as a token of my affection to Alyssa, as she was headed off to Mercyhurst and I, here. So, it was great to see the little guy again.

Now, for the weekend report: Friday night was spent being the definition of insane and random with Alyssa; Saturday morning was spent with my parents and then utterly dominated by Alyssa, Matt, Kylee, and Ian, all friends from back home; Sunday was all Pittsburgh all the time, as I traveled to see the excellent Madame Butterfly for my Music History and Lit. class. Then, I traveled back to SVC full of good karma, joy, and love for all things…until the traffic jam.

I live about an hour away from SVC, as I have mentioned for all those who intend on one day stalking me. However, it took Alexa and I over two hours to get our little behinds back to Latrobe due to a mass truck gridlock. I could not nap because, hey, I was driving and that’s frowned upon apparently, so Alexa and I did everything we could to distract ourselves…I, in particular, was frustrated because I have a pulled hamstring and the pain was starting to bother me after the hour-and-a-half mark. Dance parties within the car were held, as were large amounts of phone conversations. We could do this safely because traffic was at a compete stop. At one point it began to speed up…to where we could manage a quarter mile every 20 minutes.

Luckily when we got here awesome SVC people were willing to help us carry in our winter stuff, which was another factor in our weekend trip home.

And now, well, I’m here at SVC, doing what I do best: writing and reading copious amounts, all while avoiding doing my laundry. Nice.

(Also, for your viewing pleasure we have Party!Ken himself on route to CalU, and then the brilliance of Kylee, myself, and Alyssa.)
