Thank God It's Friday Night...

'Twas Cotillion time, boys and girls.

And what an interesting time it was. I had plans to go with my roommate, but she decided not to attend. Luckily dear fellow blogger o’ mine Emerson was still shopping for a dance companion, so we ended up going together.

And when I say going, I mean we got lost (oh, sorry, we got off track. By about half an hour). On the plus side, we ended up in Pittsburgh around the same time the buses did, and proceeded to break every traffic law in existence in order to follow it. At one point a cop watched us go through a red light in an HOV lane, but did nothing, so I’m assuming we were (somewhat) safe.

I had fun, but I think it was due more to the company I kept then the dance itself. The music was…well, bad. But, I’m vaguely used to it—primarily because I went to a public high school whose dances went down in a way very similar to cotillion—but still, I had very high hopes for it.

My senior prom was amazing, you see, and I think I transferred the idea of how much it was onto cotillion, which isn’t precisely fair. Different place, people, circumstance. But, the location was great. That’s why, overall, it seemed vaguely anticlimactic—all this work, and a semi-fun time.

Well, no, more than a semi-fun time. After everyone got settled and some 80’s music picked up, we managed to produce a circle of people rocking out with some invented dance moves. All the favorites were there, including the lawnmower, gone fishing, the grocery cart, dealing the cards…Nicol, Emerson and I have the same professor for philosophy, who has some very specific hand motions. As such, we produced the Duffy dance, which I have to admit, was too amazing for mere words to describe.

We also got…kind of lost of the ride home. We knew where we were, but took a…scenic route. That is a kinder statement, I think.

Moreover, we found the Allegany cemetery, which for some reason is shaped like a castle. Please try to top that. Anyway, we (we being myself, Tim, Nicol, and Emerson) ended up at Denny’s until WAY too late, because starvation had set in.

Exhaustion produced a slap-happy effect, so we were pretty much amused by everything. Overall, the night was filled with people in finery, conversations about ninja turtles, hamburgers, and, at one point, singing Journey. Not a bad way to spend a Friday.

Side note:

The title for this post comes from that band of bands, N'Sync. Human Rights Organization has been selling tickets for Hutchapoolaza (see the beautiful Alicia's blog for details, of which I will talk more in future posts), and we offer a discount for those that answer our trivia questions. The one on Friday happened to be Backstreet Boy songs, a truely inferior band.
