Finals, and Hutchapalooza

So, do you know what is awesome and terrifying all at once? This is the last week of class for the semester. I have each one of my classes only one more time before finals. I am ready to beat my face against a wall. I am not ready for finals. OK, I will never be ready for finals, because I will never say, “Woohoo! Next week, which just happens to be finals week, is my favorite in the entire semester!” No, that statement will never be uttered because it would be a blatant lie. I suppose that I will be prepared for finals because I will make six billion note cards and study my bum off. (OK, those are two more blatant exaggerations, but just accept it, alright?)

But, instead of focusing on the somewhat dismal future, let us instead look at the past. Last Friday evening here on campus there was an event that was organized in part by my good friend Alicia (she journals too, you know). This event was called “Hutchapalooza” and it was a benefit concert featuring some students here at SVC. The concert was to benefit a family that goes by the name of “Hutch” (surprising, huh?) who is in financial need. The concert raised a little over $2,000 for the family. I love the fact that our campus can really band together when someone needs help or something needs to be done. One of the greatest aspects about SVC is the great sense of community on campus, especially between the students, but also with the monks and professors. People are willing to do what it takes to get the job done, and are willing to speak out if something is not the way that it should be.

Admittedly I only stayed for the first four sets out of seven, but I was impressed with what I heard. The first three were really good at what they played, though there was a little too much Coldplay for my tastes. (Sorry guys.) I did rather enjoy Gary’s rendition of “Hey Jude.” Who can say no to the Beatles? Certainly not I. I did rather enjoy the fourth band, The Firework Days. There was just the right amount of oomph for my tastes, I suppose. The people I was with, alas, were not into the music quite as much (the like the Coldplay) so I left soon after The Firework Days finished. Since I did not get to talk to anyone afterwards, I would like to issue a general great job, to all of the bands and everyone who helped and thanks for everyone who helped to raise the money for Hutch! (And I am not taking any credit for it, because I basically just showed up.)
