Scheduling, Founder's Day and Fire!!!

The countdown to Thanksgiving is in full swing. I have exactly 6 more days of classes left before I am driving home, and taking a break. I am now finished all of the major papers that are due before the break, and now I just have to convince myself to do all of the little things that need to be done so I do not have to worry about doing any work over break. The only problem is that there is a PS2 sitting right behind me, and I really want to play Ratchet and Clank. In case you have not figured this out already, I am a bit of a nerd, and I am ready for some video games.

Last Friday, I scheduled for my classes for next semester. It was about as fun as I expected it to be, which is not too much. I easily got into all of my classes, but I was lying in bed having heart palpitations for the hour before I could schedule. I tend to over think and over indulge in fantasies of the worst case scenario. I apparently did not need to worry as much as I did, because I finished my scheduling within 10 minutes, while it took some others as long as an hour to complete their scheduling. I guess that I got extra lucky once again. I am also additionally glad that I do not have to think about it for another couple of months.

This Thursday and Friday are sure to be entertaining affairs. Thursday is Founder’s Day and Light Up Night at SVC. There is a dinner in the Carey Center that practically the entire campus attends. This is because the cafeteria is closed during the dinner, but that is ok, because the food is really good. Last year it was a Thanksgiving dinner complete with turkey, potatoes and pie. Later on in the evening there are fireworks and all of the lights that were already strung up in Melvin Platz are set aglow.

I actually have a silly story about Founder’s Day last year. It was pouring all day, but the fireworks and light up of the Christmas lights still occurred. Several people from my pod and I were walking through Melvin Platz in the rain, with the lights aglow around us when we noticed some smoke coming from the bushes. This smoke quickly sparked, then was extinguished by the rain. We ran to get help, and a member of the SVC fire department arrived right as the plug sparked, and caught on fire again. The connection that was sparking was quickly unplugged from the power source, and there was no additional sparking. We like to say that we saved Christmas last year, because we did. (Incidentally, the pod that I lived in last year had a Barbie theme, and we called ourselves the Barbie pod. Mel, our prefect, had shirts made for us with the Barbie logo on it, and I am wearing mine in my photo on the blogging page.)

To continue my earlier train of thought, on Friday I am going to attend Light Up Night in Pittsburgh. I am not really sure what to expect of this, but my roommate went last year, and she assures me that it is really neat. So, I suppose that I shall see, and if she is wrong I may short sheet her bed and steal the power cable for her laptop. We’re pals like that. (Actually I am not even sure what short sheeting is, but I will look it up, and then attack her bed…)

Also, I have yet another explanation for the picture that is associated with the journal. The picture is of Sara and I after we built a tent in our pod for camping. This is not extremely related, but I didn't have pictures of light up night, so this is what you get.
