Sometimes I Wonder If My Analogies Make Sense Only In My Head

Do you know those days when you have a lot of little things to do, and then you do all of them, but it seems as if you have accomplished nothing? Well even if you do not know what I am talking about, I have a sneaking suspicion that today will be one of those days. Today I hope to read for three of my classes and write journals for two of those three. None of the readings or the journals should take me very long, but I fear my attention span today will be very short unless there is a dancing monkey in my book which will hold my focus. (Just to let you know, I have checked two of the books, and there is no monkey. Maybe I the third one will be the lucky one.)

I guess my attention span varies depending on what I have eaten for breakfast, how much sleep I have, and (obviously) the subject matter. The fact is, I kind of actually want to read for the classes, but today I can’t seem to force myself to pick up the book. I just can’t drag myself away from the computer screen. I may need to be forcibly separated from my keyboard. I just watched a movie on the front page of Yahoo that was about a crazy back flip which was performed by a wrestler which won him the match. “Why did I watch it?” you ask. Well, I believe the best answer is, “Because it was there.”

I am just glad that the TV isn’t on right now. If I have issues focusing when there is a computer, I have the same issues multiplied by 10 when there is a TV on in the room. I ran into Sara’s room last night to show her my gingerbread soap. (Don’t ask.) After showing her the soap my eyes were inexorably drawn to the television screen which featured teenage girls with enough makeup on to paint the entirety of the Sistine Chapel. The movie was, in fact, one of the sequels to that cheerleader favorite: Bring It On. To be perfectly clear, I have never seen any of the Bring It On movies, have never particularly wanted to see any of them, and admittedly have never really had any strong inclination to be a cheerleader. The fact is, when my eyes focused on the TV, the battle was already lost, and I sat and watched the last 20 minutes of the movie. (Thank goodness it was almost over.) I didn’t particularly want to watch it, but I couldn’t look away. When I finally escaped, about 30 minutes had passed, (you must remember that there were commercial breaks) and I had accomplished nothing, and hadn’t even done anything that I wanted to do, such as read, or watch part of a movie that I wanted to watch.

So, basically, I suppose to sum it up, I would say that I sometimes have the average attention span of a goldfish, but when I am really into something, hours can go by without my knowledge, if Harry Potter is any indication. Wow, when I sum it up like that it sounds as obvious as if I were to say, “Birds go tweet.” Maybe I should not attempt to make any other grand proclamations today, because then there may be irrefutable proof that I am not quite as smart as I like to pretend to be.
