The Best Day of Work--EVER!

It may be interesting to note that this past Wednesday was the best day of work ever. It was quite interesting, well by factory standards anyway. I was quite calmly working in my current spot when all of a sudden the lights started to flicker in an ominous way. I looked into the other part of the factory, and noticed that all of the lights were off. “Hmm,” I said to myself. Soon afterwards we were all told to go to the break room. So all my college student friends and I were in the break room speculating about what happened. We decided that it was a car  crash of some sort. In about thirty minutes we were told to go back to our machines.

The machine that I was on had not started up again, but my friend Liz’s did. I was helping her out, making boxes, and talking to her. During the course of our conversation she said, “Wouldn’t it be great if the power went out again?” No sooner had these words left her lips, but the power did go out again, but this time there was no flickering of the lights. It was completely pitch black as surely as if someone had turned out a light switch. After Liz’s initial jubilant exclamation of “Yes!” she immediately followed it with a second exclamation of “No!” because apparently she is afraid of the dark.

So all of the workers in the factory made their way back into the break room once again, but this time we had to stumble through the darkness. There were also no lights in the part of the bathroom containing the toilets, which was a problem. So we all hung out for an hour or so, and then the power came back on, and we went back to work.

That was my most exciting day at this factory. Even after working there for three summers and three Christmas vacations totaling twenty-eight weeks. Yes, it was the day the power went out. Wow, my summer job is boring…
