THE HORROR, THE HORROR!

Today, I did something dumb: I stayed up until four o'clock in the morning studying maffs (read: Elementary Functions, MA 104), because I felt as though my grasp of the content was, shall we say...slipping a bit? Actually, it may be more accurate to say my grasp of the content was, in fact, as firm and steady as a sub-prime mortgage!

Ah, economy jokes aren't funny. Right. I shall try again.

My maffs mastery is about as solid as lukewarm baby formula.

Moving on, the "studying maffs until wee hours" bit was not, in fact, the dumb part. Studying is never really a bad thing, I've found. No, what was dumb was setting my alarm for nine o'clock--so I could get to campus by ten o'clock for class--and then promptly sleeping through the alarm for, oh...three hours? I deliquesced into a state of wakefulness sometime around noon. What follows is a slightly abbreviated transcript of my comments made at that time:

"OH SHI-"

I shall allow you to fill in the blank(s) as you so desire.

I felt like a complete and utter idiot, especially because missing Latin makes me a sad clown. I've been working hard at memorizing the first eleven lines of the Aeneid, and not just because we're getting graded on our recitals of it...dactylic hexameter just sounds awesome, and being able to recite large chunks of ancient poetry has some degree of built-in WIN.

Still, I suppose missing classes isn't a huge deal, so long as you don't make anything like a habit of it. Life intervenes...I missed a few classes here and there last semester due to the fickle whims of my vehicle, and while it's annoying, it's pretty much unavoidable. I still feel like, well...a doofus, though. My alarm is ultra-annoying...no idea how I slept through it.

Up next: why Emerson has a soul, and how it was discovered. Rodents are involved, and also candy (and various other sundries). Also, epoxy.

You'll see.
