How to Apply

If you're thinking about applying to Saint Vincent College, we encourage you to visit the campus, meet some of the people here, and have a look around. Many of our students tell us that it was during their campus visit that they knew for sure that Saint Vincent College was the right choice for them.

Our Office of Admission and Financial Aid is open from 9 A.M. until 4 P.M. on weekdays and by appointment on Saturdays. If you'll let us know when you'd like to visit, we'll be happy to schedule an interview and campus tour for you during one of those times. Our phone number is (724) 537-4540 or 1 800-SVC-5549. Our admission counselors will be better able to advise you if your test records, secondary school grade reports, or college transcripts are available for reference.

Admission Criteria

Admission to Saint Vincent College is competitive. As we look at your application, our foremost consideration will be your academic potential. We'll look for indications of your academic and extracurricular achievement as well as for information that will help us evaluate your intelligence, character, motivation, and promise.

Here are some of the things we'll take into account:

  • The level and number of the academic courses you've taken
  • Your grade-point average
  • Your class ranking (75 percent of our students were in the top two-fifths of their high school classes)
  • Your standardized test scores
  • Your admission essay
  • Your extracurricular activities
  • Your recommendations

To be admitted to Saint Vincent College, you'll need to complete 16 academic units of secondary school work. These 16 units must include four units of English, at least three units of college preparatory mathematics, one unit of laboratory science, three units of social science and two units of a foreign language among five elective units.

If you plan to major in engineering, you must have one unit of plane geometry, one unit of intermediate algebra, one unit of physics, and one-half unit of trigonometry in addition to the other requirements.

If you intend to pursue a degree in music or theatre, you must audition for acceptance to the appropriate department.

If you're applying to Saint Vincent College to study art, you'll need to submit a portfolio of your work to the Art Department.

If your secondary school program differs significantly from the program we've described, please consult our office of Admission and Financial Aid.

Early Admission

If you have an exceptional record, Saint Vincent College may allow you to begin your degree program after you've completed your junior year in high school. To be considered for this option, you should be in the upper tenth of your class and have the assurance that your high school will grant you a diploma after you've successfully completed one year of college. An interview with the dean of admission and financial aid is required.

Transfer Admission

If you're applying to Saint Vincent College as a transfer student, your academic achievement and personal history at the post-secondary schools you've attended will be of primary importance to us. However, we'll also need to receive your secondary school record as background information for academic counseling.

A transfer counselor in the Office of Admission and Financial Aid will evaluate your transcripts at your request—even before you apply.

Faculty members are available through the Office of Admission and Financial Aid for interviews, course advisement, and class scheduling.

We also recommend that you schedule a personal interview with the Office of Admission and Financial Aid.

Deadlines

Saint Vincent College has a rolling admission policy; that is, we'll notify you of our admission committee's decision shortly after we've received all your credentials.
