Arthur H. Meehan can’t help but think of Saint Vincent College in economic terms. He has devoted his career to economics and banking.

"Students graduating from Saint Vincent come out with a lot less debt or no debt compared to Ivy League universities on the East Coast," said Mr. Meehan. “To me, Saint Vincent is a real bargain considering all the amenities you get such as the new dorms and a new swimming pool.”

Mr. Meehan believes the educational component of Saint Vincent is also a great value.

"You receive an education there that is equal to the best in the country," he said. "I found that the education I received positioned me to compete effectively with people who were coming out of Ivy League universities."

Mr. Meehan studied advanced management at Columbia University and commodity training at the New York Commodity Exchange. He also studied at Harvard University and the Bernard Baruch School in New York.

From 1962 to 1967, Mr. Meehan served as assistant to the president of World Banking Corp., Nassau, Bahamas, and was also assistant head of the foreign exchange department for Bank of America International.

He was assistant vice president and assistant department head, international treasury at J. Henry Schroder Banking Corp., New York for three years.

Mr. Meehan’s career with Bank of New England began in 1970 and spanned 21 years where he served as executive vice president of corporation, responsible for international activities; treasury functions, government banking, and corporate asset liability management. He was also president of the Bank of New England International in Miami, Florida.

In 1992, Mr. Meehan joined Medford Savings Bank as president and chief operating officer and was appointed chairman, president and chief executive officer in April 1994. After the Medford Bank was sold to Citizens Bank in October 2002, Mr. Meehan became director of Citizens Bank of Massachusetts where he also serves on the corporate asset liability management committee of Citizens Financial Group, chairman of the audit committee of Citizens Financial Group; member of the executive committee, and a member of the board of directors of Citizens Bank of Massachusetts.

He and his wife Jeanne live in Dover, Massachusetts. They have three children.

"Students at Saint Vincent get the added benefit of having a large number of Benedictines there who have spent their lives studying," said Mr. Meehan. "And the students have real access to both the professors and the Benedictines."
