The West at War topic of conference at Saint Vincent College

A three-day interdisciplinary conference on the topic The West at War will be held at Saint Vincent College on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 14, 15 and 16.  This is the seventh major conference on cultural and public affairs sponsored by the Center for Economic and Policy Education in cooperation with the Alex G. PPG Industries Foundation awards Saint Vincent College $5,000

PPG Industries Foundation has awarded Saint Vincent College a grant of $5,000 to advance the College chemistry program. The Chemistry Department will use these funds for the PPG Chemistry Scholarship and to support student lab development. ( Read More )

World Day of Prayer for Vocations to be observed April 17

In response to the late Holy Fathers' wishes to set aside Sunday, April 17 as a special day of prayer for Vocations, the Archabbey would like to invite the Saint Vincent family to join together in honoring the Pope's request in observing the World Day of Prayer for Vocations on Sunday, April 17 at  7 p.m. in the Archabbey Basilica. Career Services announces Marine Corps Officer Candidates School

Students, what are your plans for this summer?  Would you like to spend six weeks training with the United States Marine Corps at Officer Candidates School?  This paid leadership internship called the Platoon Leaders Class (PLC) gives you a chance to earn $2700 dollars for six weeks of training.  You will come away from this training with valuable leadership skills that will set you apart from your peers. If you participate in the summer training, you are not obligated to join the Marine Corps; it is your choice.  You need to complete your degree first, but if you decide to accept a commission and become an Officer of Marines, more than 20 job specialties would be available to you, including jet pilot, if you are qualified. History students present theses at Phi Alpha Theta Conference

History juniors and seniors attended the Western Pennsylvania Regional Phi Alpha Theta Conference and Undergraduate History Forum held at Clarion University on April 2. Senior History majors Virginia Leiner and James Natale presented versions of their senior theses.  Ms. Leiner's paper, "Caravaggio and the Identity of Saint Matthew:  A Study of the Advent of Ambiguity in Art," was awarded a paper prize.  Other students who attended included:  Nick Baum, Bryan Bish, Kristy Cameron, Neal Cholock, Desiree Craig, Bob Dern, Stacy Ducar, Eric Eiseman, Tara Hopper, Lauren Lewandowski, Doug McIndoe, Tim Meyers and Matthew Shields.  Dr. Sommers attended and served as a panel moderator for a group of papers on the Cold War. Oblates of Saint Benedict to meet April 17

Panel offers advice on graduate school

Dr. Jennifer Koehl(panel coordinator), assistant professor of biology, Dr. Holly Rine, assistant professor of history and Dr. Gene Torisky, assistant professor of philosophy, engaged over 20 students who are contemplating applying to graduate or professional school in a panel discussion at an event sponsored by Career Services on March 17. The panel addressed the process, writing cover letters, identifying and using resources, understanding timetables, preparing for the interview, developing relationships with faculty, identifying an advisor and selecting alternate paths if not accepted.
