<title>Students attend annual meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association</title>

<description>&#x3C;P&#x3E;The annual meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association was held Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12 at the Sheraton Boston Hotel.&#x26;nbsp; &#x3C;B&#x3E;Justine Lohr&#x3C;/B&#x3E; and &#x3C;B&#x3E;Sarah Johnston&#x3C;/B&#x3E; attended the&#x26;nbsp; &#x201C;Self-Assessment of Readiness for Grad School&#x201D; talk hosted by Psi Chi. In this workshop, students were given interactive materials and were shown how to assess their own readiness to attend graduate school and how to evaluate their GPAs, undergraduate course work and other important criteria.&#x26;nbsp; &#x3C;B&#x3E;Tara Nolan&#x3C;/B&#x3E;, &#x3C;B&#x3E;Maria Pacella&#x3C;/B&#x3E;, &#x3C;B&#x3E;Sarah Johnston&#x3C;/B&#x3E; and &#x3C;B&#x3E;Justine Lohr&#x3C;/B&#x3E; attended the &#x201C;Applying to &#x3C;?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = &#x22;urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;st1:place w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;st1:PlaceName w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;Grad&#x3C;/st1:PlaceName&#x3E; &#x3C;st1:PlaceType w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;School&#x3C;/st1:PlaceType&#x3E;&#x3C;/st1:place&#x3E;&#x201D; talk hosted by Psi Chi on Saturday. During this workshop, students were provided with several different handouts about graduate programs in clinical and counseling psychology and general graduate school admission information. The purpose of the workshop was to help prepare students for grad school by providing valuable information about the necessary requirements for the application process. &#x3C;B&#x3E;Camal Robinson&#x3C;/B&#x3E; attended several presentations.&#x26;nbsp; The following seniors presented their senior research: &#x3C;B&#x3E;Megan Roble&#x3C;/B&#x3E;, &#x201C;The Effects of Music Tempo on Exercise Intensity;&#x201D; &#x3C;B&#x3E;Autumn Toplak&#x3C;/B&#x3E;, &#x201C;The Perceived Father-Daughter Bond in Relation to the Daughter&#x2019;s Body Image;&#x201D; &#x3C;B&#x3E;Correne Clark&#x3C;/B&#x3E;, &#x201C;Hardiness and Religiousness as predictors for Anxiety;&#x201D;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x3C;B&#x3E;Margaret Poole&#x3C;/B&#x3E;, &#x201C;Bullying Among At-Risk Youth: The Relationship Between Victimization and Self-Esteem;&#x201D; and &#x3C;B&#x3E;Jessica Twaddle&#x3C;/B&#x3E;, &#x201C;Spirituality and Self-Actualization.&#x201D; Faculty attending the conference &#x3C;B&#x3E;included Dr. Mark Rivardo&#x3C;/B&#x3E; and &#x3C;B&#x3E;Dr. Christopher Oldenburg&#x3C;/B&#x3E;. <title>English major attends Association of Writers and Writing Programs Annual Conference</title>

<description>&#x3C;P&#x3E;&#x3C;B&#x3E;Sarah Keehnle&#x3C;/B&#x3E;, a junior English major, recently attended the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Annual Conference in &#x3C;?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = &#x22;urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;st1:place w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;st1:City w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;Vancouver&#x3C;/st1:City&#x3E;, &#x3C;st1:State w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;British Columbia&#x3C;/st1:State&#x3E;&#x3C;/st1:place&#x3E;.&#x26;nbsp; After attending the AWP Conference in &#x3C;st1:City w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;st1:place w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;Chicago&#x3C;/st1:place&#x3E;&#x3C;/st1:City&#x3E; last year, Ms. Keehnle knew that it was an experience she wanted to have again.&#x26;nbsp; Thanks to the A.J. Palumbo Student Research Grant, Ms. Keehnle was able to spend March 30 &#x2013; April 3 in &#x3C;st1:City w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;st1:place w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;Vancouver&#x3C;/st1:place&#x3E;&#x3C;/st1:City&#x3E; at this year&#x2019;s conference.&#x26;nbsp; For three days, Ms. Keehnle attended seminars on topics such as writing revisions, legal issues in the publishing world, and using truth in the genre of fiction.&#x26;nbsp; Additionally, Ms. Keehnle had the opportunity to interview five successful creative writers.&#x26;nbsp; These five writers provided Ms. Keehnle with a wealth of information regarding technique, motivation and advice for aspiring writers.&#x26;nbsp; The material Ms. Keehnle obtained from her interviews will be compiled into an article that she will submit to &#x3C;st1:place w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;st1:PlaceName w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;Saint Vincent&#x3C;/st1:PlaceName&#x3E; &#x3C;st1:PlaceType w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;College&#x3C;/st1:PlaceType&#x3E;&#x3C;/st1:place&#x3E;&#x2019;s student newspaper, &#x3C;I&#x3E;The Review&#x3C;/I&#x3E;, as well as various literary magazines and journals for publication.&#x26;nbsp; &#x3C;/P&#x3E;</description>

<title>Two seniors honored by Opportunity/Act 101 program</title>

<description>&#x3C;P&#x3E;Senior English major &#x3C;B&#x3E;Lisa Snyder&#x3C;/B&#x3E; recently attended the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Annual Conference.&#x26;nbsp; This year&#x2019;s conference was held in &#x3C;?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = &#x22;urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;st1:place w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;st1:City w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;Vancouver&#x3C;/st1:City&#x3E;, &#x3C;st1:State w:st=&#x22;on&#x22;&#x3E;British Columbia&#x3C;/st1:State&#x3E;&#x3C;/st1:place&#x3E;, and without the A.J. Palumbo student research grant Ms. Snyder would not have been able to attend.&#x26;nbsp; While there Ms. Snyder had the opportunity to interact with other students, writers and professors as well as attend seminars.&#x26;nbsp; She had the opportunity to interview several writers and professors about their individual writing processes, what inspired them to become writers, and the steps that led them to where they are in their careers today.&#x26;nbsp; Ms. Snyder will use the information provided in the interview to write an article to be submitted for publication.&#x26;nbsp; This article is intended for those who enjoy creative writing and may desire to pursue a higher degree within the field.&#x3C;/P&#x3E;</description>
