Former Governor Dick Thornburgh to be Commencement speaker at Saint Vincent College on May 7

Former Pennsylvania Governor Dick Thornburgh will be the main speaker and recipient of a Presidential Medal of Honor at the 159th annual commencement of Saint Vincent College on Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Student Center. At the ceremony about 290 students will be awarded bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Library announces end-of-semester procedures

Attention all student borrowers: Library materials should be returned to the Library by Thursday, May 5. Materials not returned by then will be considered lost and charged according to the following: $40 per book (minimum); $25 per VIDEO (minimum); $20 per CD (minimum); $20 per DVD (minimum); $15 per audio (minimum);  PLUS $30 processing fee (minimum per item). Fines and charges not paid by noon on May 8 will be forwarded to the Business Office.

The Saint Vincent College Center for Northern Appalachian Studies announces the publication of They Say There Was A War

The Saint Vincent College Center for Northern Appalachian Studies announced the publication of They Say There Was A War, a collection of personal accounts of veterans of World War II. The book, the first sequel to the Center’s The Long Road, includes the stories of veterans from all theatres and all services, including the Merchant Marine. Included also are two accounts of men who were victims of the Bataan Death March that followed the fall of Singapore and the Philippines to the Japanese in 1941.

Five students attend National Conference on Undergraduate Research

Five Saint Vincent College students attended the 19th annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR 2005) hosted by Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee University in Lexington Virginia. Watershed Summer Institute 2004 Researcher, Casey Conroy, and four 2004 Lancy Scholars, Alexander Duranko, Alandra Kahl, Thaddeus Pajak, and Jared Wilson traveled with Dr. John Smetanka, director of the Lancy Scholars Program, for the three-day conference, April 21 – 23.
