This is the eleventh year for Psi Chi at Saint Vincent College. The organization had a successful fundraiser to start the year, completed several service projects and had several members travel to a regional conference. A summary of the year's events follows. In the months of September and October, we held our major fundraiser, which is a Halloween treat bag sale. Parents of freshmen and Psychology majors had the opportunity to purchase a large Trick-or-Treat bag that was delivered to their student on Halloween. All together we filled about 200 bags, which contained things such as candy, snacks, drinks and school supplies. After completing the stuffing of these bags, Psi Chi participants enjoyed a pizza party. We ended the fall semester with a service project for Saint Anne’s Home, which is a local care facility. Each member of Psi Chi was assigned a resident of Saint Anne’s Home. Each resident made a short Christmas list of things they would like for the holiday and the corresponding Psi Chi member was responsible for purchasing a gift from their wish list. Without external donations such as ours, the residents would not have received Christmas presents this year. In January, we began to look to the future by beginning to plan the spring induction ceremony. Throughout the next month, we began encouraging eligible students to join Psi Chi. On March 26, we inducted a record 33 new members; doubling the number of inductees from years past. On March 16, four of our current members and one of our new inductees traveled to Baltimore to present their Senior Theses Research at the Eastern Psychological Association Conference. Nine other members and inductees also attended the conference with Dr. Mark Rivardo, Psi Chi advisor, and Dr. Christopher Oldenburg. We will also be participating in a final service project for the year, which is providing donations for the Blackburn Center. The Blackburn Center is a local shelter that provides services for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. This year has been very successful for Psi Chi and we hope that this continues into the future.
