The Saint Vincent College baseball program is mourning the loss of former player Ed Mutnansky, whose life was lost early Wednesday following a vehicle accident in Latrobe. Mutnansky, a native of Forbes Road, PA, played for the Bearcats from 1997-99. A utility man, he pitched as well as saw time in the infield and outfield.
Bearcat head coach Mick Janosko said the following about his former player: "Eddie was always a positive person. I never really saw him get upset with himself or his teammates. He was truly a pleasure to coach. "One of the things that really stands out about Ed was after every one of our conversations, whether we had an hour long meeting or just seeing each other on campus, he always ended it by saying to me, 'Have a great day, coach.'
"Eddie was a battler on the field, and he always gave me everything he had. Whether he was on the mound, in the outfield, or the infield, he always gave his best. One of my best memories of him was his freshman year when he pitched an absolute gem against Ohio Dominican University. At the time, I believe they were ranked in the top 15 of the NAIA. He shut them down for most of the game, and although we ended up losing 5-2, he threw a complete game against one of the top teams in the country. I'll never forget the way he competed that day.
The Saint Vincent College Baseball Family lost a dear member today. Our thoughts and prayers to out to the Mutnansky family and their extended family."
