SVC Baseball
#15 - Mick Janosko, Head Coach

Mick Janosko recently completed his 12th season as head baseball coach for the Saint Vincent College Bearcats. Over the past decade, Janosko has built a program that focuses on success, both on and off of the playing field.

“We’ve built a strong program from the ground up,” says Coach Janosko. “We’ve made tremendous progress over the past 12 years and we’re looking to continue to get stronger. The players and the staff realize the value of hard work. There is no substitute. That’s why our philosophy is pretty simple: Commitment, Hard Work and Focus. We want players who are committed, who work hard and who have good focus, not only on the field, but off the field as well.”

Coach Janosko's squads have eclipsed the 20-win plateau seven times, including a school-record 27-17 mark in 2003 and a 26-20 record in 2004.  The 2004 squad finished in first place in the American Mideast Conference's North Division, and reached the NAIA Region IX finals, falling one game short of the NAIA World Series.  It was the most successful season for Bearcat baseball in over two decades, and Janosko was awarded Coach of the Year by both the AMC and NAIA Region IX.

In 12 seasons, Janosko has coached seven All-Americans, while 50 have been named All-Conference.  The Bearcats have finished with a cumulative team batting average over .300 10 times under Janosko, while the Bearcats' have finished with a fielding percentage over .945 in each of Janosko's seasons.

His teams have also had success in the classroom, as 15 players have been named to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll stemming back to the 2006 campaign.  Also, 2005 graduate Josh Morrow became the first player in program history to earn National Scholar-Athlete laurels from the NAIA.

Janosko was previously the assistant coach at Point Park College from 1992-1994. During his two years as assistant coach, the Pioneers finished second and first respectively in the KECC. As a player, Janosko had a successful career, playing at two top-ranked college programs, Marietta College (OH) and Point Park College(PA). During his senior season at Point Park, Janosko played left field, catcher and designated hitter on a Pioneer team that posted a then national record winning streak of 44 games. He hit .390 that year while driving in 32 runs. He participated in two College World Series and had several tryouts with pro clubs including Pittsburgh, Kansas City and Cincinnati. He is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

A 1986 graduate of East Allegheny High School, Janosko lettered in both football and baseball, earning all-section honors his junior and senior years.  In 2006, he was named to the East Allegheny Athletic Hall of Fame for his athletic achievements.  He played semi-pro baseball for 12 years in the Daily News League, a newspaper sponsored league in the Mon-Valley area of Pittsburgh that has been in existence for over 70 years. He retired after the 1999 season.

A 1990 graduate of Point Park College, Janosko earned his degree in journalism-communications. He and his wife Melodi reside in East McKeesport, PA with their three sons, Parker, Kendall and Traynor.

#25 - Jim Berger, Assistant Coach

Jim Berger, a 2004 graduate of Saint Vincent, recently completed his second season on the Bearcat coaching staff after playing for Coach Janosko from 2001-04.  He assists with hitters and infielders, while he also serves as the squad's first base coach on gameday.

A first baseman, Berger was a member of the two most successful teams in school history, including the '03 squad that set the school record for wins in a season (27) and the '04 team that won the American Mideast Conference North Division title, and finished runner-up at the NAIA Region IX Tournament, one game away from reaching the NAIA World Series.

Berger, a native of North Huntingdon, PA, remained active on the diamond through 2007, playing for Phil's Tire (Rostraver Twp.), along with a number of his former Bearcat teammates, in the Fayette County Baseball League, a semi-pro wooden bat league with teams in Fayette, Westmoreland, Greene, and Washington Counties in southwestern Pennsylvania.

He is a full-time employee in the Saint Vincent athletic department, also serving as Assistant Sports Information Director.  Berger is single and resides in Latrobe.

#40 - Keith Harmon, Assistant Coach

Keith Harmon joins the staff this season as pitching coach.  He also serves as the college's head men's soccer coach.

Keith played three years of soccer at Monongahela High School (now Ringgold), attended Lock Haven University where he was a three-year letter-winner for the Bald Eagles, and later coached at Ringgold.

Harmon played semi-professional soccer for eight years, and is a licensed USSF coach and a former USSF and WPIAL referee.

#31 - Jason Bush, Assistant Coach

The longest tenured member of Coach Janosko's staff, Jason Bush has been an assistant with the Bearcats since the fall of 2003.  He helped the Bearcats reach the NAIA American Mideast Conference post season for three straight seasons between 2004 and 2006, including a 2004 campaign in which the Bearcats won the AMC's North Division, and advanced to the NAIA Region IX/X Super Regional finals.  Jason primarily assists hitters and infielders, while he also serves as third base coach for the Bearcats on gameday.

A native of Latrobe, he has been the head coach of the Latrobe American Legion baseball team for five years, guiding the team into the District 31 playoffs in each season, and a pair of trips to the regional finals.  In 2009, the Jethawks captured the District 31 championship.

He is married, and has one son, Zach.
