Junior guard BJ McGill reached the 1000 point plateau in a tough 59-55 loss on the road at Washington & Jefferson College.

McGill scored a game high 28 points, to bring his career total to 1,002.  He reached #1000 at the free throw line in the closing 90 seconds.

The game was a see-saw battle throughout the early portion of the first half.  W&J led by five, 17-12 near the midpoint of the half, but SVC fought back to make it a one-point game, 21-20, after six straight points from McGill.

The Presidents then opened the lead to nine, 33-24, before SVC closed the half with a flurry.  McGill hit a pair of free throws after a technical foul was called on the W&J bench with 1:52 left.  Just over a minute later, Henry Utku hit a three-pointer, then Ed Wright his a three with just one second left on the clock, making it a one-point game, 33-32 at the half.

SVC took the lead early in the second half, but the teams then traded the advantage back and forth until the 7:30 mark.  After Wright scored on a fast break to give the Bearcats a one-point lead, 47-46, W&J took the lead back at the free throw line, scoring six straight points at the charity stripe.  A field goal then put them up by seven, 54-47 with 2:42 left, before Moe Hawkins hit a three from the corner to end a six-minute SVC scoring drought.  Wright then scored just 15 seconds later to make it a two-point game, but the game would later be decided at the free throw line, and SVC was unable to come back for the win.

Utku added 8 points for SVC, while Wright tallied seven.  Stephon Berry had a team-high 6 rebounds, while Armani Fountain added five.

Overall, W&J (9-12) outrebounded Saint Vincent by a 32-20 margin.  The Presidents went 22-for-24 from the free throw line, while SVC was 13 of 23.  Paul Matthews led W&J with 17 points, while Brian Felker grabbed six rebounds.

With the loss, Saint Vincent drops to 5-15 on the season, and will host Geneva College on Saturday night in the Carey Center at 8PM.  The game can be heard live on WCNS-AM 1480 and on the Red Zone Media Network (www.redzonemedia.com).
