The Bearcats shot 58 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes to come from behind and defeat visiting Thiel College 77-72. Joey Butler and Ian McCollough each recorded 20 points for Saint Vincent (10-3), while Tre'sor Kalambay chipped in with 10 in a game that featured 11 ties and 17 lead changes. The Bearcats started slowly, but led throughout much of the first half despite connecting on just nine of 32 field goal attempts (28 percent). SVC enjoyed its largest lead of the first half when McCollough hit a three to put the Bearcats up 22-18 with seven minutes left. Thiel came back to gain a 27-26 lead two minutes later, until a trey from Butler put the Bearcats back in front 29-27. The Tomcats then outscored SVC 6-2 over the final moments of the first stanza to take a 33-31 lead into the intermission. The teams continued to trade the lead following halftime, but McCollough then scored 10 straight SVC points in a five minute span to put the hosts up 50-47 with 12 minutes remaining. Thiel answered with a 7-1 run to go up 54-51 three minutes later, but a driving lay up from SVC's Billy Bains tied it up at 55. The teams again went back and forth until a three from Kalambay made the score 63-61 in favor of the Bearcats with seven minutes left. Trailing 72-67 with 30 seconds left and with the basketball, Thiel looked to make it a one possession game, but Butler came up with his fourth steal of the night to quell the Tomcat threat. Thiel was forced to foul, and Butler and Kalambay each hit a pair of free throws over the final 25 seconds to seal the win. Joe Herrmann led the Tomcats (5-8) with 21 points, while teammate Devon Adams added 18, including 11 from the charity stripe. Saint Vincent will look to extend its winning streak to three games on Wednesday night, hosting Washington & Jefferson at 8pm in the Carey Center.
