Part of the educational experience at Saint Vincent College is the opportunity for students to work in internship positions and to seek full-time employment in anticipation of graduation. We, in the Office of Career Services, recognize the value of internships and realize the importance of proactive job searches as we continue to assist you in these endeavors.
During the Fall Semester, a new program will be launched by the Office of Career Services. The Saint Vincent College Professional Development Series.
The Professional Development Series is a combination of programs and events designed to help students in the internship and career exploration process. The kick-off for the series is the Professional Development Series Kick-Off to be held on September 4 from 2:00-4:00 in the Carey Center Student Lounge. Here the students will get an overview of the services offered by the Office of Career Services, information on other career-related programs co-sponsored by the college and outside organizations, and they will be able to informally mingle with other students, faculty and staff.
As part of Professional Development Series, we will continue to offer a variety of workshops and panels throughout the fall semester. Alumni, local employers and the Career Services staff will speak on a variety of topics. Examples of offerings include Writing a Cover Letter and Resume, Exploring Your Career, Searching for Full-time Employment and Internships, Navigating a Job Fair and Networking, Interviewing Skills, and Negotiating a Job Offer.
In addition to these practical skills workshops, mock interview sessions will be offered along with mock interviews initiated by professionals. The Office of Career Services also conducts some in-class sessions on fields pertinent to a particular major. In addition to the SVC Professional Development Series, the Office of Career Services will hold the Saint Vincent College Career Expo on October 24, 2007. We also support off-campus events such as WestPACS, the Accounting Consortium Event, Accounting Career Days and PERC Teacher’s Fair, just to name a few. These job fairs are hosted by a consortium of approximately forty local colleges and universities and are held throughout the fall and spring semesters. Promoting these and other events, in conjunction with our workshops, on-line job search services, and individual career counseling sessions, provides our students with a set of tools to take them from the classroom to the work place.
