Introduction
The Center for Biotechnology Education and Outreach at Saint Vincent College was established in 2004 through a partnership with the United States Army Applied Biotechnology Center and Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.
The Center is conducting the following activities:
- Developing educational programs in biotechnology and bioinformatics at Saint Vincent College, in conjunction with the faculty of the School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Computing;
- Providing opportunities for students to interact and network with the biotechnology industry;
- Providing opportunities in biotechnology education to the community, including speaker programs, workshops, certificate programs and specialty courses;
- Partnering with regional secondary science and career technical educators to create and disseminate best practices in biotechnology curriculum at the high school level; and
- Partnering with industry, regional economic, and workforce development agencies to increase the biotechnology workforce in Pennsylvania and the nation.
The Center is affiliated and housed with the School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computing. Since the nature of biotechnology is interdisciplinary, the Center works closely with our other Schools at Saint Vincent College to interweave ethics, policy, and business into our biotechnology curriculum and programs.
