The Saint Vincent College Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computing’s pre-professional health committee has announced that eight seniors have been accepted and will pursue studies in allopathic, optometry, osteopathic or dental medicine in the fall. Dr. Stephen Jodis, right, dean of the Boyer School and Dr. Michael Rhodes, associate professor of biology and chair of the committee, left, congratulated Alec Cicchini of Belle Vernon, biochemistry major, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine; Zachary Jackson of Pittsburgh (15215), biology major, Ohio Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine; Nicholas Lieb of Irwin, biology major, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine; Gerald Ngo of Lititz, biology major, Ross University School of Medicine; Katherine Morris of Ebensburg, biology major, Salus University Pennsylvania College of Optometry; Kara Rhine of Kittanning, biology major, Salus University Pennsylvania College of Optometry; Dylan Winters of McKeesport, biology major, Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine; and William Zammerilla of Jefferson Hills, biology major, University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Admission to professional schools is highly competitive and Saint Vincent College’s pre-professional health committee, composed of faculty of the Boyer School, works closely with individual students to help them achieve their goals. They assist with selection of courses and extracurricular experiences and provide opportunities to learn about admission, schools and careers. Acceptance to professional schools is based on academic performance, commitment to service, knowledge of the health professions, interpersonal skills, leadership and professional school admission examinations. In addition to Rhodes, the members of the pre-professional health committee are Fr. Shawn Anderson, O.S.B. assistant professor of biology; Dr. Bruce D. Bethke, associate professor of biology; Dr. Angelo DeMezza, internship shadowing coordinator; Dr. Daryle H. Fish, associate professor of chemistry; Dr. Matthew A. Fisher, associate professor of chemistry; Dr. Jennifer Schmidt Koehl, associate professor of biology; and Dr. Cynthia A. Walter, associate professor of biology.
