Dr. Michael Urick
, assistant professor of management and director of Saint Vincent College’s Master of Science program in Management: Operational Excellence (MSMOE), and Alpenen Arslantas, a graduate student at Saint Vincent pursuing a master’s degree in MSMOE, co-authored an academic paper, entitled “A comparison of U.S. and Turkish perspectives of generations” which Arslantas  presented at the 77th annual Academy of Management (AOM) international meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, on Aug. 7. It was presented as part of a symposium on global issues related to intergenerational phenomena in the workplace. The paper was initially conceived by Arslantas and evolved over a year through ongoing collaboration and dialogue with Urick.

AOM is the largest and most prestigious organization for management academics. Attendance at this year’s conference was nearly 10,000 management professors and graduate students.

Urick also co-authored (with Dr. Therese Sprinkle of Quinnipiac University) a paper entitled, “Is there a perceptual or generational bias in volunteering?” which was presented at the conference. He served as a mentor (and panelist) for doctoral students working on qualitative dissertations in the “Navigating Qualitative Dissertations” professional development workshop at the conference.

Regarding the collaboration with Arslantas, Urick commented, “Alperen’s accomplishments are quite impressive and stand as a testament both to his personal intellectual ability and to the strength of the MSMOE program. Most of the presenters here are professors or doctoral students. Alperen is only one of two presenters that I know of who is presenting while working on a master’s degree. Out of a group of nearly 10,000 academics, Alperen held his own and gave an excellent summary of our study.  He did a fantastic job and should be proud of this accomplishment.”  Arslantas is currently interning at Matthews International and will complete the MSMOE degree in 2018.
