The 16th annual Westmoreland Earth Day featuring local environmental organizations and businesses from throughout the region will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve at Saint Vincent College (WPNR).
This year’s theme is “Earth Day DIY – Do It Yourself” with a focus on homesteading, conservation techniques, nature enjoyment and appreciation.
Exhibitors will include more than 35 environmentally-based non-profit organizations and environmental businesses that demonstrate responsible use of materials and land (farms, apiaries, organics, etc.), non-profit conservation organizations, community-oriented organizations and groups which promote outdoor activities.
Earth Day will feature an abundance of unique venues including pond exploration, live animals from Wildlife Works Inc. and a petting zoo hosted by the Saint Vincent College Equestrian Club.
The event will also include natural product vendors, nature and bird walks, live music, a children’s obstacle course, native plants and many more educational activities, live animals, informative displays and booths for all ages and interests.
Live Music will feature Sunburst School of Music and Mike.
Some aspects of the event will also be powered by Zero Fossil’s renewable energy.
The event will feature appearances by What a Character Mascots and Smokey Bear.
The first 100 guests will receive a packet of native plant seeds.
The complete schedule of events will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. unless noted: Live music; Sunburst House Band and the Suntones, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.; Mike Medved 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.; Ryan Kuntz, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; London Fog 5:30 to 6 p.m.; petting zoo; food concessions open; Zero Fossil Smoothie Blender bike and other eco-friendly energy demos; nature and bird walks.
