LATROBE, PA – The Saint Vincent College Education Department recently hosted its sixth annual “SVC Wraps for Kids” event, a community service initiative in conjunction with the Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau and Children First Fund that provides Christmas gifts for less-fortunate children throughout Westmoreland County.
Throughout the school year, students raised funds to cover the costs of gifts, wrapping paper and materials. The group purchased all gifts and materials on Saturday, Dec. 8, and then held a wrapping party on Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve filled with holiday spirit, music, food and door prizes.
Under the guidance of Dr. Kathleen Beining, assistant professor of early childhood education, 130 Saint Vincent students and volunteers participated in the two-day event, which will serve more than 200 children across the county.
More than 900 children have benefited from the project over its six-year run.
