Keynote Address
| This year CSAA proudly announces Dr. Jonathan Zimmerman the author of forthcoming book; Small Wonder: The Little Red Schoolhouse in History and Memory
as the keynote speaker for the 2009 conference. Dr. Zimmerman is the
Director of the History of Education Program and Professor of Education
and History for the Steinhardt School of Education of New York
University. In addition to his outstanding research and publications
in the history of education, Dr. Zimmerman has been awarded as a
distinguished lecturer for the Organization of American Historians and
has given numerous presentations in the U.S., Ghana, Rwanda, France,
the UK, and Canada. Most recently, Dr. Zimmerman has received the New
York University Distinguished Teaching Award. |
In his book Small Wonder: The Little Red Schoolhouse in History and Memory,
he discusses how the little red schoolhouse has disappeared in the
United States, but its importance in national memory remains
unshakable. This engaging book examines the history of the one-room
school and how successive generations of Americans have remembered—and
just as often misremembered—this powerful national icon. |
