Flu Season Update from the Wellness Center

Influenza activity continues to increase in the United States at epidemic levels. We are trying to decrease your exposure, and would recommend you and any student who contracts the flu go home while you recuperate. If you cannot get home, please do not attend classes until you are without a fever for at least 24 hours.

Symptoms of the flu include: Fever, headache, chills, body aches, sore throat, fatigue and possibly cough or vomiting and diarrhea.

If you think you have the flu: Rest, drink lots of fluids, take acetaminophen or ibuprofen to reduce pain and fever and distance yourself from others to prevent the spread of disease. Stay home from class or work until fever-free for 24 hours. If you are able to go home, please do so.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve. Wash your hands often or use alcohol-based sanitizer. Wash your hands before eating, after using the bathroom, after touching objects handled by many people or after coughing or sneezing. Do not share drinking glasses or eating utensils, and limit close contact with other persons. Call the Wellness Center at extension 2115 or 724-805-2115 with any questions.
