Those attending- Walz, Finau, Deely, McBride, Astorino, Florendo, Stevens, Caridi, Coreno, Lamadrid, Mans, Br. David Kelly Minutes approved SGA has been working with campus services and the library has been a reoccurring issue in the eyes of the students concerning hours. Compared to peer institutions, Saint Vincent is below the average hours per week that the library is open. At the last SGA meeting, a motion was made to present a proposition of extended library hours Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to midnight. This would accommodate students who would like to study before their 8:30 classes and longer, uninterrupted study time for students who have night class. Br. David recognizes the need to open earlier and agreed to talk to his staff. An option of experimentation will be looked into for the spring semester, with the intention of revisiting the issue after a trial period. Mans affirmed that the budget would allow a few extra hours each week. Br. David also informed board that an introduction of desktop delivery will make inner library loans more efficient. Wants to put into action a new electronic system that will remember a search a person does in the library and take him back to its tracked memory every time he logs in. The hopes are to get student input on the system through the use of free trials and to be installed by next fall. Mans announced the college is purchasing an anti-plagiarism program called “Turn it on.” The goal is to have it installed by next semester. Students can also use it as a tool to prevent plagiarism. The search for the Dean of the School of Humanities has narrowed the candidate pool to three, two of whom will be on campus before Christmas for interviews. Informed students that some may be asked to participate in the interview process. Caridi referenced the flyer that was mailed to students before break concerning phones in their rooms. The situation was assessed over break and nearly 100 students still do not have phones. This is a problem and those students will receive an additional letter in their mailboxes this week. Also, thanked SGA for putting up the Christmas lights in Melvin Platz. Next semester agenda items include registration glitches, classroom utilization and remodeling, and a meeting with the new football coach. Respectfully submitted by Sheena McBride
