Sarah Keehnle, a junior English major, recently attended the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Annual Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia. After attending the AWP Conference in Chicago last year, Ms. Keehnle knew that it was an experience she wanted to have again. Thanks to the A.J. Palumbo Student Research Grant, Ms. Keehnle was able to spend March 30 – April 3 in Vancouver at this year’s conference. For three days, Ms. Keehnle attended seminars on topics such as writing revisions, legal issues in the publishing world, and using truth in the genre of fiction. Additionally, Ms. Keehnle had the opportunity to interview five successful creative writers. These five writers provided Ms. Keehnle with a wealth of information regarding technique, motivation and advice for aspiring writers. The material Ms. Keehnle obtained from her interviews will be compiled into an article that she will submit to Saint Vincent College’s student newspaper, The Review, as well as various literary magazines and journals for publication.
