Senior attending biology conference in San Francisco

Kate Barkowski will be presenting her research, “Sexually diergic hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis responses to single-dose nicotine alone and following continuous administration of nicotine by osmotic mini-pumps in rats,”April 1-5 in San Francisco at a meeting of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. She will be making the trip with the assistance of an A.J. Palumbo grant.

Our sympathies to Fr. Tom Hart, O.S.B., on the death of his mother, Margaret E. Hart of Middletown, Pennsylvania last Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday in Seven Sorrows Church, Middletown, with Fr. Tom as celebrant.

Accounting professor presents seminar based on research

Dr. Rob DePasquale, professor of accounting, presented a two-hour continuing professional education (CPE) program for the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors on Friday, Feb. 10. The seminar, entitled "Professional Ethics for Accountants Not in Public Practice," was based on the research he did last summer as part of a Saint Vincent faculty development grant.

Botsko article published in American Mathematical Monthly

Dr. Michael Botsko, chair of the Mathematics Department, has had a problem published in the February 2006 issue of The American Mathematical Monthly. This work involves the convergence of infinite sequences of real numbers through a kind of epsilon, delta condition.

Special Announcements

Library hours announced for spring break

On Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 the Library will be closed for spring break. From Monday, March 6 through Friday, March 10, the Library will be open 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. On Saturday, March 11, the Library will be closed, but will be open on Sunday, March 12 from 6 to 10:45 p.m. Regular hours will resume on Monday, March 13.

It was standing room only as over 150 students and alumni heard nationally acclaimed author and speaker Donald Asher present, "Conducting an Effective Job Search," as the keynote speaker for the WANT Job and Career Expo on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the Four Points, Sheraton, Greensburg.

Archabbot Lambert to speak at Oblates meeting

The Right Reverend Lambert Reilly, O.S.B., will serve as the guest speaker at the meeting of the Oblates of Saint Benedict on Sunday, March 12, at 6:45 p.m. in the Westmoreland Room of Placid Hall at Saint Vincent. Archabbot Lambert will address the topic “Oblates, Like Monks, Must Become Better.” The talk is open to the public, and admission is free.

WestPACS Spring Job Fair to be held during spring break on March 9 at ExpoMart

This year marks the first time that the WestPACS Job Fair occurs during the spring break at Saint Vincent College. Career Services points out that one benefit of the scheduling is that there will be no conflict with academic courses. Students can get a head start on the job search by attending the event scheduled for Thursday, March 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Monroeville ExpoMart. More than 100 employers have registered to date for the fair including a number of " Fortune 500" companies listed below. A complete list of participating employers along with search capabilities by major and career objective is available at www.westpacs.org.
