Kate Barkowski will be presenting her research, “Sexually diergic hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis responses to single-dose nicotine alone and following continuous administration of nicotine by osmotic mini-pumps in rats,”April 1-5 in San Francisco at a meeting of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. She will be making the trip with the assistance of an A.J. Palumbo grant. Ms. Barkowski has the following to say about her trip: “Attending a major, international biology meeting will provide me with the opportunity to experience how scientific research is presented on the global scale. I will have the chance to interact with experts in this field of research and to represent to the scientific community the research being done at Saint Vincent College. As I am currently in the process of applying to medical schools (as I plan to pursue a career in medicine), this conference will provide me with the opportunity to learn about new and exciting developments in science that may greatly influence my future profession as a physician. The ultimate goal in my research is to have a paper on this project published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. Attending this meeting will provide valuable feedback as this paper is developed for publication.”
