Activities Report – Clark reported there were two big events this week that each had a good turnout. There were around 250 people at the Open Mic Night and five cash prizes were awarded. The 80’s Dance was also well attended with around 300 people. There were some complaints about the music, but the DJs followed instructions. Programming Board Event Analysis forms are now available to get students’ feedback on the past few events. Clark invited all members of the senate to evaluate the events. Secretary – No report. President’s Report – Stevens met with Carson again concerning Homecoming. Carson would like to have some type of event that would draw attention to Homecoming that would make people want to come back year after year (something like the St. Vincent Sandwich or world’s largest banana split). There will be a pep rally this Friday in the cafeteria for the Steelers with themed food and music. On Super Bowl Sunday, meal equivalency will start in the Shack around 5:30 and they will have wings, and hot sausage sandwiches. There will be a big screen set up in the Carey Center for anyone who would like to come down and watch the game. There will also be some snacks available. There was an SFAB meeting last week and Tom Morrison came in to talk about internet upgrades. Morrison will send e-mails to students to keep them posted with all the details of this project. With the internet upgrades should put SVC above peer institutions. Stevens also reported that we would not be electing a senate representative to attend the leadership conference this year with the executive board due to lack of funding. Committee Reports – Food: Conway met with food service this week. They compared cafeteria attendance this week with last week and there was a decrease with the over crowdedness. They will be meeting again to discuss meal equivalency in the Shack. FMO: Palscey reported that they will soon be renovating the Wimmer lobby. The renovation will include a pool table upgrade. The lights in the Lot Q extension are now operational. Fiumara reported that Hendrick will speak with his Benedict staff about the bathrooms. In the future provide him with more specific information such as pods with problems or specific days of the week there is a problem. Palscey added for the time being, if students need access to the student locker rooms in the Carey Center on the weekends, to contact Public Safety. New Business – Walters reported that the recreation course is going well. There are seventeen students in the class. An upcoming event will be to hike to 48 states in 48 days. The first trip will take place May 30 to June 10 and will cover the states in the Maine region. Seven students will be allowed to attend. It is first open to students enrolled in the recreation class then the students in SGA. There is still no word on offering recreation classes for academic credits. In the fall there will be three courses offered: recreation, aerobics, and aquatics. Next fall break, Walters would like to take some students to an island near Wilmington, NC and simulate a “Survivor.” April 23 there is going to be a Loyalhanna Lake cleanup project. Intramurals are going well. There are some scheduling problems with the gym. More time will free up at the end of the regular basketball season. Concert tickets – We have 750 tickets reserved for students. There was some debate on the sale of these tickets. Walters suggested students could purchase tickets with their student ID. Malesky motioned to sell two tickets to students at the student price when they present their student ID. Motion was seconded by Cheplic, and approved by the senate. Herzing recommended we have a student roster present while selling tickets and highlight student’s names as they purchase tickets to alleviate searching through pages of names. Issues from the floor – Herzing questioned why the gate by the cafeteria is closed when the cafeteria is not even open. Motion to adjourn by Keeler, seconded by Sroka. Meeting adjourned at 8:32 PM.
