Research
The Office of Foundation and Government Grantseeking helps to identify grant programs and other potential funding sources for curriculum development, faculty research, and institutional projects. FGG subscribes to online databases and print directories, and receives both electronic and published program announcements and requests for proposals.
FGG communicates directly with grantmaking program staff members and maintains memberships in related professional organizations. Complete files on foundation/agency correspondence, funding history, and proposal archives are housed in FGG. Links to grant databases can be found at Grantseeking Resources.
Communication
FGG disseminates information about funding opportunities, guidelines and regulations, agency news, and program announcements through its newsletter Grantsline, through targeted e-mail grant alerts, and on this website. FGG staff encourage faculty to subscribe to electronic grant notification services. FGG coordinates grantseeking workshops and facilitates communication between grantseekers and program officers at foundations and federal or state grant agencies.
Program Planning
FGG reviews and interprets funder guidelines, obtains sample proposals when possible, communicates with the program staffs of granting agencies and arranges appointments between faculty and agency program officers. FGG staff also works with principal investigators and project directors to focus and refine project concepts, to prepare a proposal development timeline, and to monitor progress toward proposal submission. Procedures Pre-Award
Proposal Development
FGG provides varying degrees of writing and editorial support for institutional and faculty-generated proposals. At the minimum, FGG reviews drafts of all proposals requiring the approval of senior academic or administrative personnel of the College. Review may include editing for content and style in accordance with application guidelines, proofreading and formatting, and provision of background information and institutional data.
Budget Preparation
FGG reviews proposal budgets to ensure consistency with institutional guidelines. The appropriate Dean of the School and Vice President must approve matching grants and those that require commitment of institutional resources.
Submission
FGG is responsible for final preparation of grant application forms, including cover sheets, budgets, assurances and certifications, and audited financial statements. The FGG staff also provides IRS determination letters, IRS form 990s, and audited financial statements when required, and prepares cover letters for the President’s signature. The staff assembles the proposal package, makes all the required copies, mails the package (generally by commercial carrier), and distributes copies of the proposal internally. FGG also provides technical support as needed for electronic submission of grant applications.
